Nokia makes a film with Spike Lee

This is one of the earliest campaigns I worked on. “Digital” advertising in the early 2000s often meant having ideas that were better than the technology to support them.

In 2008, Spike Lee was interviewed saying “Within five years, new movies will be made with devices like cell phones.” We decided to shorten that timeline and approached Spike Lee that year to direct a user-generated film all shot with cell phones. The submissions were self-edited and submitted on a Nokia microsite. This was the year YouTube was just starting to be used and phones were just beginning to be able to capture video.
